Has anyone had crypts melt on them? I move my Cryptocoryne wendtii ''green'' all the time with bad effect on them at all. I can move them from one tank to another, in the same tank, or take them out and put them a bucket for hours when rescaping and I have never had one melt yet. I am wondering if this is as big a problem as most people say it is.

I have many crypts, several varieties....tall, short, green red, brown, bronze, bright green and I rescape a lot, including sticking them in buckets from time to time......and (knock wood) haven't experienced crypt melt either.

My Red Crypt Wendtii melted down to just a stump when I first planted it, but it's growing better than any other plant in my 5g now.

My green C. wendtii (I think that's what it is) didn't melt after I bought it at the big box petstore, put it in a cooler, drove home 2 hours, unpotted it, and planted it. Didn't lose a single leaf.

They do melt---but not always. Usually when they are moved, or adjusting to new water/tank. But they will always grow back if "one is patient".

I had it happen with the c. wendtiis I put in my 10g tank: the older leaves "melted" for about a week. Quite a few leaves remained and now I'm seeing new growth. I don't think crypt melt is a certainty in any given situation, but the species does seem to be at higher risk of it than many others. :read:

Some of mine have had a partial melt down, only some leaves & a few, total melt. My c. moehlmanii (sp?) had the older leaves die gradually rather than melt, maybe the emersed/immersed adjustment or just lower light. Red wendtii was terrible for the first year it melted if I looked at it too long.
