I've had these crypts (c. wendtii) for four months and they were growing very well. They were shaded by a clump of hornwart but it was taking over my tank. I trimmed it back and now the crypts (about 5 of them) all melted, probably due to the increase of light. My question is, will they adapt to the light and grow back, or should I shade them again?

I think they will come back when they adapt to the new lighting. How much wattage are we talking about?

The very same thing happened o me in my 20 long. I had a bunch of wisteria that had really overgrown the tank. I did a massive trim and all my crypts melted. It has taken awhile, but they are coming back very nicely now. Just have to wait for it.
