crypt Plants- suggestions, questions???

But I don't want to go to using CO2. I'm growing fairly easy plants now, anubias and some crypt wendtii, java fern, java moss, wisteria and a ruben sword. I have the crypts and sword in pots with laterite and sand (I have plecos and dojos that would knock them loose if they weren't potted and I can put the laterite and move the plants where I want now . Well, they seem to be doing pretty well, I have to see how things are after a while since I just added a canister filter. I also have a penguin 330 going also. Used to have an algae problem until I got a bristlenose and now he's keeping everything looking great . Using Fluorish once a week too.

OK, are there any other plants I should try? something bullet proof? I have medium light. I was looking at crypt "Mi Oya" or crypt. blassi, does anybody have any experience with these? I'd like a nice easy background plant. Also, is the water wisteria supposed to be a light green? (definately not as dark as my anubias are ). I want something low maintance and fish proof, LOL! (also a good easy red plant )

Without knowing how big your tank is & how much light you have it's really difficult to make suggestions. Could assume that since you have a pleco your tank is larger than 60g? You understand those things get more than a foot long right? If you plan on keeping it make sure to stay away from fragile plants. Pleco's are pretty brutish. It is possible to have a low-algae tank without them

Aponogeton's might work... maybe an ulvasceous (don't spell check me please ) They get pretty tall though.

<edit> just read your other thread where you said you have a 46g tank. It also said "plecos" which is plural so you have more than 1? They're some kind of dwarf pleco right?

Yes, they are smaller plecos

I have a bristlenose, a small growing gold nugget and a king tiger (he's the biggest of the 3 at about 4 inches) in my 46 gallon tank They're all pretty well behaved as long as the plants are secured so they can't uproot them . They also have their diets supplemented every day with veggies so they are pretty much plant friendly otherwise (except for cucumbers, boc choy and spinich!) Now the biggest bottom dweller I have currently is one of my dojo loaches (have 2), and he's pretty active. He(or she) likes to use the java moss on some drift wood like a bed and curl up there for naps! The other fish are 5 yellow tail congo tetras, 5 elrey tetras and 5 platies (not counting any babies hiding around).

LOL, well you got the spelling of the aponogeton right

I was able to web search and get some hits on that but I got nothing when I searched for ulvasceous, do you have a common name for this plant?

Aponogeton ulvaceous does not have a common name, but be sure it spelled correctely before doing a search. It is a large and vigorous plant which will do well potted only if the pot is sizeable IME, more in diameter than height. It needs substrate fertilization regularly in my tanks, comparable to the large swords. A great centerpiece plant, and unilke A. crispus, it rarely goes dormant.

P. Ancistrus(Bristlenose Plecos) are nice little Plecos that do a great job of cleaning up algae, especially on glass and Anubia.
They only grow to about 4" so they are fine for all planted tanks.

That my gold nugget and king tiger wouldn't even touch! I then got the bristlenose and he cleaned it up in two days! (though I had a bunch of green poop around). LOL, I had him in a smaller quarantine tank and when I put him in his current tank and he saw all the algae he must have thought he died and went to heaven or at least the "all you can eat" buffet Hopefully he doesn't outgrow this *sigh* if any of the 3 have to go I'd probably trade the king tiger, he's a nice peaceful fish, but hides a lot (more than my other 2)
