I have an adult female cryptoheros sp. I'd like to identify. She is full grown at about 5" and very peaceful. She used to have a mate, but he died. He was 6" and the same color as her without the yellow.

I'd like to ID her before I place a cryptosheros myrnae male in the same tank. He lost his mate and I'd like to move him into my 80.

It looks like a Cryptoheros sajica or it has that in it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Another forum thinks she is a c. myrnae. The colors/markings are correct but her body shape reminds me of c. sajica. It is quite possible she's a hybrid.

That would certainly speak to why I've been having problems pointing it to a single species...

Toss up between Septemfasciatus and Myrnae. Males look way diofferent... But female kinda have similarities.

THough Going by one other characteristic.. That Mid spot... Being a Spot vs. head up and down is saying Myrnae ;)

So I am Going with Myrnae ;)

Thanks. Yeah, the males are much more distinct. I had another myrnae female but she died before maturity, so the body shape was a bit different, which is why I was confused.
