CT - Blizzard 2013

I feel your pain. We had a 3-footer in NE Pa about 15 years ago. It was the one and only time I've ever needed my driveway plowed. Didn't see the lawn until late April.

We only got 4 or 5 inches of light fluffy stuff, and now it's pouring rain all day.

I sometimes wish away the entire month of January, but as the days get longer in February, those 28 days can't go by fast enough either.

Hang onto those pictures!

Early forecasts had said maybe 8", lol. the closer to the storm we got, the more the anticipation went up. By the day before the snow, it was projected to 20". Finally the day of the snow they were saying 25-30 inches, which was closer. We got 36" by the time it was done and parts of the state had 40+" At Bradley Airport, 22" was recorded as official but reality is far different. The airport gets less snow and rain than the rest of the state but always has higher summer temps. Since I live on the shoreline, our "official" measurements are different from Bradley AP and was listed as 37", which either way is one for the record books.

Those offshore breezes really have a big impact on our weather along the coastline. Cooler in summer, warmer in winter, and get the brunt of the Nor'easters. The weather people relate it to the storm of '78 and said that better technology allowed us better preparedness and mitigated loss of life and damage because people were able to take it more serious. Many ppl ignored the warnings in '78 because weather reporting was notoriously poor. The Governor closed the roads at 4pm Friday, schools never opened, and people went shopping in advance. The bans were lifted at noon on Monday. Everything was completely shutdown by midnight Friday nite and it likely saved a lot of lives. Even the 24/7 stores closed.
