Cucumber floats?

This is what I use.

It is a suction cup....i forget the name brand, but that sell them at Petsmart. Any old potato chip bag clip will work and sink easier. Those that are pictured float unless you use the suction clip to stick them low on the glass near the bottom feeders.
 
It's a picture out of Dr's. Foster and Smith catalog that is where I got mine from.
 
I don't know if this is an urban legend regarding fish, but I heard/read years ago about a fish (Pleco?) getting caught in the ring the rind left when an entire circle slice was put in the tank. This killed the fish.

So, since then all cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, etc. that goes in my tank are slices cut in half. Because I figure it's plausable it could happen - even if it isn't true - and so I'd rather err on the side of being cautious.

that definitely sounds like an urban legend.

i use those plastic petsmart clips and like them, but i did have one completely snap apart into about 5 pieces one day when i tried to use it. annoying, but they're not too expensive. plus i probably use veggies that are big enough to put stress on the clip.
