I tried to keep daphnia I collected last year out of several local lakes in my 10 gallon aquarium when it had no fish.

They didn't last too long- the longest surviving group a week and a half.

I assumed they would eat the algae and detritus in the tank but there must not have been enough in suspension.

Anyhow I am looking at collecting some more if I can.

What is a good way of getting a successful daphnia culture?

Thanks

I've heard of people feeding them green water, yeast, liquid fry foods(the smallest) egg yolk, all sorts of stuff, but you probablky will have to feed them. an open ended airline at the mottom of the tank is all you need for water circulation. don't use an airstone. the bubbles get under their carapace and kill them. obviously, powerheads and power filters are a no-no as well. That does help.

I'm going out tomorrow to a local lake to see if I can catch some.

Thanks
