Curbing Dwarf Cichlid Aggression

most fish can do just fine in pH anywhere in the mid-6's to the mid-8's. breeding might be affected, but the fish themselves can adjust.

Well, I'm glad to hear that the two species I'm looking at can handle the pH in my tank. I'm still wondering about how peaceful they'll be
I really do think that the bolivian Rams will be better with cory cats.

I'm asking about them... how hard are they to find, and about how much do they cost?
In my experience, they're two of the more available species. You could also try http://www.aquabid.com

I suppose I'll put a bit more research into the rams then. They're both perfectly pretty fish. Thanks.

I second the bolivians..they are actualy quite peaceful and get along ell ith other tank mates.
they may become territorial during spawning.

the key is adjusting the fish to the pH..but that applies to one that comes from a different pH.

I would highly suggest drip acclimation in these instances..also a good idea if you are getting fish from a different area via shipping.

Bolivian rams are hardier in my experience and also tend to only give each other aggro. I had two with corys for ages with no problems and I currently have two with a bunch of smaller dwarf cichlids and harlequin rasboras - also no problems.

Are there any good ways to distinguish a Bolivian Ram from a German Blue Ram? I looked at a few pictures and they're horribly similar looking. It looks like the GBRs have more pronounced black spots, and the BRs have more of a lyre tail style caudal fin. Do I pretty much need to trust whoever I'm buying from to tell the truth on this?
