Hi,

can i use a hair dryer to cure silicone faster?
i'm planning to use silicone to glue my tank divider. but i also neeed to use the tank the same day. can i use a hair dryer to do this?

I would not recomend it. You have the posibility of cracking the glass and if you try to cure the silicone too fast it will not set right.

You absolutely can, I did it with no problem and the repair has lasted well over year so far.I cleaned the area with alcohol prior to applying the new silicone, and I used the dryer to dry the water as I applied it as well.

If your dryer has 2 settings use the lower of the 2 and don't concentrate it on a narrow area rather allow the glass to warm evenly. If the dryer only has on setting dont hold it too close to the glass...Your'e not battling water like I had to and I'm assuming that you don't need it to be absolutely water tight, rather you just want to ensure it stays in place....

Id worry about the silicone off-gassing something toxic if it wasnt totally cured before using it. But, if you have to, a hair dryer sounds like it works for some! Is there a way you can move your filter and gravel and all into the bucket your fish will be in for a few days?

Thanks,
I used gluegun instead :)
my divider is in place for now :)
not sure if the gluestick will hold though.

If u polimerize it quickly, polimerization displacement will be higher and it effects the placement of the glass.
