I've got an 125 gallon acrylic tank with a canopy. I've got a few live plants and wanted to go up to 2wpg and plant more heavily. I was thinking of getting the Current USA 60" Orbit light fixture with 4 65watt bulbs (I'll have to swap out the 2 Actnics for daylight bulbs).

Anyway, I've got a few concerns. At marineandreef.com they state "do not put this fixture under a canopy". Dumb question, but has anyone placed one of these fixtures (Satalite or Orbit) under a canopy? Also, I was wondering how hot the fixture gets as it will be placed directly on the acrylic top of the tank. I would think this wouldn't be an issue because the fixture itself has an acrylic lens (light cover on the bottom).

I really like the Orbit 60" because it supplies 260w, has lunar lights for nighttime, and a fan for cooling. But if anyone has any ideas or a better solution to getting 2wpg for my acrylic tank with a canopy let me know.

One last thing, most light hoods come in 48" and 72". My tank is 72" but I really like having the canopy, so the hood has to be less than that. The cuttout in the top of the acrylic tank is longer than 48" and around 7.5" wide. So a 48" hood wouldn't work unless it is at least 8" wide to prevent the hood from falling in the water.

Here's a link to a product description of the Orbit:

Any answers, help, advice, etc. would be appreciated.
