Cutting PVC for caves

At Home Depot they have Aquairum Silicone sealant...or something like that. Made for Aquariums

here in Canada/US those tools are different items.

I've seen a lot of variation in the industry. Sometimes they are called Sabre Saws, while Sabre Saw is also the name of the Sawzall since its held more like a sword. Reciprocating saw is the generic classification that they all fall under.

if you use silicone to glue things onto styrofoam will the silicone cause the styrofoam to dissolve? Styrofoam cups are not very sturdy anyway...if you go to a lot of work to make something look nice you are probably going to want something more durable. Tin snips may also be able to cup through most plastic, and possibly even pvc pipe.

Styrofoam cups...an excellent idea, as are the various fittings like elbows and tees for PVC pipe!

It's been a while, but I got my tunnels done. I ended up waiting on a batch of black silicone to coat the insides of the caves so the stark white wouldn't stand out so much.

I finished that 2 days ago. I used aquarium silicone, which says it cures completely in 24 hours, but is even safer to wait 48hrs before "filling the aquarium." So, 48hrs to hold under pressure, but that isn't a concern when making caves. Do you think it's safe to put the caves in my tank with my fish now? If I put them up to my nose, I still smell the vinegar smell of the silicone..

sawing PVC

you can saw PVC with a nylon string

get about 6 foot of it tie a handle on each end a stick will do

put the pvc pipe on the ground with the string under it where you want to cut

slowly pull one side of string up and then the other side up
it will start cutting and then go faster and saw all of the way though it

if the string hangs up use a different part of the string to finish cut

shhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone this is a secret that only a few know

lol just be careful the string gets hot
what it does is melt the pvc and that is how it cuts it

I like the thought of using t's and 90s and such. Not to hijack the thread, but can and how would one go about covering pvc with moss? could make for a nice covered habitat.
