Syphon it into a bucket. Leave the house for little while then give the bucket a sniff. It's a musty mildewish smell. I can't tell if it's just a little bit or if I'm home too long but when it's bad...:barf:My husband noticed more often than I did especially during a water change.
I used to think slow water movement was partly to blame but I've had it on the HOB filter return too once it's in the tank. Don't forget to wipe off the sides of the tank too, under the lip of HOBs etc. Good luck
