Over the past week or so I've been noticing some patches of blue-green algae growing in and over my gravel/plants. I wasn't too worried about it until this evening when I got home: several of my smaller plants are now coated in the stuff and whole sections of the gravel are completely covered...

As treating the tank with antibiotic (erythromycin) for several days is a pretty popular treatment, would Melafix be an appropriate substitute? I'm gonna go ahead and test it out to see and I'll post what I find, but what do ya'll think?

Well, Mike, if Melaleuca oil does have any authentic bactericidal effect, you might expect it to act upon cyanobacteria. I hope you won't make any other changes in the set-up til you're satisfied about Melaleuca extract, one way or the other.

I've been successful just with added oxygen.
