Cycle and salt

Is it that bad? Lotsa fish, get nipped fins. If its not a problem don't fix it. Those nitrites could tell us a lot. 0 ammonia and 0 nitrate? How long has the tank been running. It seems like (from your other post) you just got a 10 gal and threw him in w/ some water.
I had him in a 2.5 gallon tank with a divider. One betta on each side. I believe (but I didn't see it) that his tail fin slipped into the other side and got chewed on. It happened two nights in a row. So I obviously took him out and had him in a small bowl (which he hated). I got a ten gallon tank and ran it for only a day (putting in it the Betta Fix and Stress Coat) before putting him in because he was miserable in that little bowl. I could just tell. He's constantly active, especially in this bigger tank and his tail fin is healing very quickly with the Betta Fix. The tank has been running since Saturday. I couldn't stand to see him in that little bowl after having 1/2 of a 2.5 gallon.

Read the post on cycling. It is long but worth it. I'm pretty sure the ammount of salt needed won't hurt your cycle, but unless the fin is really badly torn I wouldn't even worry about it. You should, however, put him back in an established tank and do a fishless cycle on the 10.

Bettas are usually very hardy (during a cycle) because they mainly use their labarynth organ to breathe. I personally like salt moreso than most meds (for basic problems) because it seems to me that its much eaiser on the fish. I would suggest adding 2 table spoons of salt (table salt or aquarium either way) and doing daily 3-5gallon waterchanges. This will help him survive cycling. just remember that salt doesnt evaporate out of the tank, its only removed by water changes, so every time you do a 50% water change you will need to add another tablespoon of salt (untill the cycle process is done).
