Well, my 38 Gallon is finally cycled.
Last three days:
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite 0.25 for 2 days, 0ppm last night
Nitrate: ~5ppm
I am going to give it a couple more days just to be sure. I am assuming I should see Nitrates increasing a bit if I don't do a water change. (I haven't done one in the past 3 days since the readings remained steady.)
Now, I originally planned on a final fish tally something like this:
9 Tiger Barb
9 Black Phantom Tetra
2 Sunset Gourami
5 Peppered Cory
However, I think that may be a bit overstocked, and I kind of like only having 3 species in the tank. Current inhabitants, that went through the cycle, are 6 Tiger Barb, 2 Sunset Gourami, 3 Peppered Cory. I am thinking of going with this as my final stocking:
9 Tiger Barb (3 Green, 6 normal)
2 Sunset Gourami
5 Peppered Cory
Should this be ok? Is it possible to do 10-12 barbs? For the most part, the barbs only bug each other. Occasionally nipping a cory if they decide they want to check for food where the cory is. They seem intimidated by the gourami - they look like they are about to nip, then quickly swim away. The gourami will chase the school away as well, if they feel like it.
How should I add the new inhabitants? I am thinking tomorrow evening if the levels hold steady. Should I do the 2 cory first, watch the levels for a few days, then add the 3-6 barbs?
Thanks for your input. ^.^
