How long does a cycle normally last? Its at a nitrite stage now and i have had the tank for about a month. The nitrite is dangerously high and its pretty annoying

Now I'm no expert on the cycle but I don't think it normally lasts that long are you doing fishy or fishless cycle?

I can't speak for Cycling with fish as I have never done it before! But once your ammonia hits zero in and 8-12 hr. period, your Nitrite levels should be pretty high! And generally at this point you are a little over halfway done! When the Nitrites start to drop they will drop like a rock! I assume you are cycling with fish since you said the nitrites were dangerously high! Are you cycling the 30gal. in your sig with all those fish? If so it may take quite a while, That is ALOT of fish to cycle with!

I'm also at this point. At 1.5 weeks in my ammonia is down to 0 in 24 hours and my nitrites are high. I'm eager to finish :D .

The ammonia eating colony doubles in size once every 16 hours and the Nitrite eaters once every 24 hours. Pretty much take the # of days that the ammonia eating colony took to establish and multiply by 1.33 to get a rough estimate :read:

the nitrate is around 80 and the nitrite is around 10

and yes i guess im cycling with the fish

Well with Nitrites that high, I am surprised that you have not any fish. Nitrites bind to a fish's blood much like Carbon Monoxide does to our blood and literly suffocates the fish. You better start doing some waterchanges to bring those Nitrites down to as close to 0 as you possibly can.

Those nitrAtes AND nitrItes are WAY too high if you are cycling with fish. You need to do a huge waterchange ASAP or you are going to start losing them.
