Cycled instantly???

I just did the same thing with a 30g long and a 10g. I pulled all the gravel from the 10 and put it in media bags, and put them in the 30, pulled the filter itself and put it behind the new filter in the 30, and placed all the plastic plants and rocks from the 10 and put them in the 30, with the same fish. Let it it run for a week and added 4 Tiger barbs (now there are 6 barbs and 1 Kenyi) and my levels have just been smooth as silk. Gotta love seeding a tank.

Well I AM seeing Nitrates, still 5ppm and today is day 4.

Is that to low? Ammonia still 0 today and Nitrites still 0.

I seeded a ton (both in filter and w/ gravel in a nylon stocking) from my existing tank when setting up my new tank (last month). It took 3 days for the ammonia to rise... I thought I had instantly cycled! Then it slowly rose for about a week but never got above 0.8.

I also always had about 10.0 nitrate but that was coming from my tap. I constantly seeded (1 cup of gravel) almost every day for the first 10 days. I thought I had cycled as well...but it still took 3 weeks for ammonia and nitrite to go to 0. However my ammonia never got about 0.8 and nitrite never above 0.5. So I felt less guilty about doing a "fish cycle". That was my experience. None of my LFS cary biospira - I would have liked to try it! :)

Good luck!

WoW the two of you have almost the name nick names :)

Your tank more or less has cycled due to the large amount of bacteria you put into your tank. Just in case I woulc watch your levels for another week or so, just to be safe.

Are you going to be adding any more fish soon? If you are do it a few at a time or else your levels may go up.

Bio-Speria will last for about 6 mounths if kept cold. I would save it for later just in case you have a problem down the road.

Well, I would like to get about 5 more of the Long fin red minor serpae Tetras (thats a mouthful).....they are so lovely. But will wait a bit to make sure we are stable ect...
