I just got finished setting up my fry tank. My question is how long do i have to wait until I can put in my fry. I put two filter cartridges from my cycled tank in the fry tank. They are just hanging off the side. Will this speed up the cycle. The tank is only 10 gallons. Is cycling this type of tank the same as any other?

Last night i put some food in the tank just to see if it would raise the ammonia levels. I tested my water today and everything is still at 0. The food should have created ammonia, right? If so, and ammonia is at 0 is my tank cycled?

If you just put food in ,it will take a little will to get to measurable levels. When I say a little while I mean a few days. Nitrite will take even longer, I assume you know the nitrogen cycle. ;)

Puting filter media from your other tank will deffinately speed up the cycling process, but you still have to wait for the bacteria to colonize the filter media in your new filter so to answer your question about when can you put fish in there will depend on when your ammonia and nitrite are reading 0 and there is a build up of nitrate in the water. And yes cycling your 10g is just like cycling any other tank, it takes time so be patient.
