im in the middle of cycling my 40 gal and i just have one question..... if i took my bio filter from my old 10 gal HOB and let it float around in the tank, would that help with the cycling process... i mean i think it would, it is covered with alot of beneficial bacteria just not to sure if it is gonna do anything just floating there...BTW i am running a rena xp2

you could "squeeze" it into your filter as well if it won't fit. Or see if you could somehow hang it in the discharge of your filter. It would certainly help regardless.
well i could defiantly fit it in the tray where the ceramic rings are.... i would just have to take a few out.... does that sound ok????
In with the ceramic rings would be perfect. That is biofilter in with biomedia. Make sure you are feeding the bacteria with either ammonia or having a few fish in the tank. Just don't overdo the fish at first because you still only have the biofilter from a 10 to work with.
i put my pleco in the tank for some ammonia for the bio filter... he seems to be happy in there.... alot more room for him to swim.... he was in another 10 gal i had.... i felt bad leaving him in there with such wide open spaces for him to swim in... but i will definatly keep up with the water testing..... so far everything seems to be fine
