Cycling my 115 gallon

As long as you have any measurable ammonia or nitrite, the size of your beneficial bacteria colony will continue to grow. Keeping ammonia and nitrite low (below .2 or so) will only make your fish healthier and more comfortable as the tank cycles.

In addition to water changes -- as much as it takes to keep ammonia * nitrite down -- if you can find any additional source of seeded filter material, adding that will speed up the cycle.

Just keep testing... a lot of times it seems that ammonia or nitrite are building slowly, until boom-- they just seem to jump. Keep testing regularly until you're sure the cycle has completed.

Good luck,
Jim

P.S. I agree about removing NitraZorb or anything like it. You want the beneficial bacteria to grow enough to control waste; with absorbing resins and the like, it's hard to know if the tank has actually cycled.

300gallon is a tank list for a full grown male or a breeding pair...I wouldnt consider putting 2 males in a tank of that size just because of territorial issues.

MINIMUM tank for a silver arowana I would list at 180 (24"wx72"L)

keep in mind that the clown knife is going to grow well over 2 feet

parrots will grow to 12" each the frontosa at about 15" and the plecos (assuming they are common) anywhere between 12-18" which is why I said the tank is overstocked....not enough room for everything.

the arowana/clown knife alone are too small for the tank when fullgrown

pacus need that much tank for 2 reasons.... 1) they are physically big 2) they require A LOT of swimming room as they like to dart back and forth at incredible speed.

Where do you get your information from? A silver is not ok in a 300g tank and is definately not ok in a 180g, and yes they do not reach their potential b/c of the fact that they usualy die of stress before they can. A fish that has the potential to grow 48" should be keept in a tank of at least 60" wide and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. I have said this so many times before and I will say it again, it is not what you can do, it is what you should do. Btw a C/knife will need a bigger tank! I would have to agree with Psmurf that you will want a tank of a least 1000g for a silver.

My friend had a silver arowana in a 180 gallon tank which was 6 ft long. The arowana grew to 3ft and the poor thing barely had any room to swim. Sometimes it would swim forward and instead of turning around, it would just swim backwards. So I agree that an arowana needs a very long tank and is unsuitable for most home aquarium.

back to the water change thing. Should I really doing 30% daily?

Yes you should , and I would suggest 50% water changes daily.
