Ok i am fishy cycling a 75 gallon tank-please no flames. My readings are Ammonia is .50 Nitrite is 0.0 Nitrate is 0.0 Ph is 7.2.

I am on day 6, just wondering when to expect nitrite readings etc?? I have changed the water almost daily changed around 20-30 %.

Am I doing the right thing?

Fishy cycling a 75 gallon tank could take a while. As long as you change the water rgurlay to keep the amonia down you should be okay. The cycle has to parts: Ammonia to Nitrite and Nitrite to Nitrate. Enough bacteria has to build up for both. So plan on changing the water for a while.

My guess is about a month minimum from what I hear on hear. None of my tanks are that big.

I am also impatient and do a major dose of Bio-Spira as soon as I start getting ammonia readings.

Danger

I have 4 Giant Danios and a Red SHoulder Severum who is about 1/ 1/2 inches. Seem to be doing well, eating good. swimming around really well. Sev is shy anbut ventures out, sems like he is starting to get brave and was swimming beside the Danios this afternoon.

I want the fish to be ok but also dont wanna do so many water changes etc that the cycle does not begin. Did not know when i should start seeing nitrite reading?

my 29 Gallon didn't cycle for almost 3 months. I just stopped messin with the filter media and did water changes all the time. And after what seemed like an eternity it finally did cycle. I'm doing fishless next time or letting a filter hang on back for a couple months and switching it over to a new tank.
