Cycling new tank found snails!!!

Today is the 1st day of my tank cycle and I found 2 snails in my tank. One of the plant completely ruined by snails.. is there any fishes that able to eat those snails away? Currently I have 2 balloon mollies and 2 chinese algae eater in it. I don't think puffer can go in coz' I believe that gonna kill either mollies or algae eater...

Please help me before snails start to infest! :help:
 
Clown Loaches eat snails........but they also get pretty big.

sorry, i don't quite get what u mean. is it by putting lettuce leaf in a dark area and by next morning alot of snail will infest there? if yes, i'll try that immediately...

yeah, agree that loaches will grow big... i'm doing a planted tank and plan to introduce only guppies, tetra and mollies.. so i guess loaches can't be in the same tank right?
 
What type of snails do you have? The common hitch hikers--pond snails, round shell--do not go after healthy plant tissue, only algae and dead leaves. They are not a problem in a tank that is properly maintained.
 
not quite sure what snail could that be... it's cone shape shell (black).. it's very very small indeed. one of my plant i bought home was in good condition but today i notice it's completely ruined. majority of the leaves being eaten... so i guess this is not a friendly snail i suppose?
 
No, a dead plant doesn't mean the snail is to blame. Transportation, planting, current tank conditions could all easily kill the plant, and the snail is just cleaning up. What kind of plant is it? Search on ramshorns, as well, to see if that's the type of snail you have.
 
Many plants are grown in the industry by placing only their roots on water. Whiel these plants (such as amzon swords) can survive both emmersed and submerged they will grow different leaves accordingly. So when you take them hoem they can often look perfectly healthy and then start to die off. As well some plants suffer a transplant and start to show die off rather quickly when they change tanks. Often it can take many days and sometimes weeks before these plants regain their size and grow new appropriate foliage. I would wait to see if they grow back in.

As for thsoe snails they sound like Malaysian Trumpet Snails (appropriate for you I guess). They are generally well liked in planted tanks as they tunnel throught eh substrate are are good for roots. They typically eat left over food, algae and decaying plants.

One other thought is that alagea has taken over your leaves and makes them look bad. What exactly do the plants look like?
