i moved awhile back and broke down my 125 and moved the fish to a 55...and only used like half the gravel....i still have it... what im wondering is if i take the water from the 55 and the gravel and filters if it would be strong enough to support the fish and grow from their.....the fish is a 4-5 inch gt hes just plain not happy in the 55.....and i wanna add outher cichlids

Just to be sure--you're taking the filter, gravel and fish from a cycled 55 gallon & putting it into the 125 gallon?

The filter, if cycled, will support the number of fish you had in the 55 gallon, even in a different size of tank. However, if you decide to stock the new, bigger tank with more fish, you must add them slowly so that the filter bacteria can catch up with the fishload. Keep your test kits handy and monitor regularly. Be prepared to do water changes if necessary.

I'm assuming also that the filter you've cycled in the 55g is the right size for a larger tank.

to emp 400's and prolly a rena 3 is that enough? lol yes its a 125 it's just one fish right now....and he was in the 125 and i moved it like a month and ahalf ago and put him in the 55......

so im about to move my 55 into the 125 but down here i dont have access to warm water so i usually fill up this bucket and warm it up and declor it and add it to the tank.... what i was thinking of doing is adding most of the water, and p.h buffer and heating it up then adding the outher gravel and filters cause im afraid the cold water will kill off the bacteria.....sound good?

Not sure why you're heating the water. As long as it's a moderate room temperature bacteria can grow in the tank. However, you will need to bring it to the same temp as your other tank before adding the fish, so that temp swings don't shock your fish when you transfer them to the bigger tank. You can use an aquarium heater to do this, so the temp is exact.

cause the water is cold really cold....depending on the outside temp and the time of day i use the water, when i first set up my 55 the water was around 50 and the fish need it at like 78 or so
