cycling with dead fish

I wouldn't recommend cycling with anything other than pure ammonia.

You can't regulate the amount of ammonia that a dead fish will release into a tank. It could send you ammonia ppm over 5

Ammonia levels over 8ppm encourage a different colony of ammonia consuming bacteria which is detrimental to the nitrogen cycle.

Or just get bacterial supplement, a bit less disgusting/depressing. I have heard of your method used before though, back in the 70's and 80's if that gives you an idea...

the bacteria supplements aren't always reliable so be careful with them.

Try something like Stability from Seachem. It will allow you to add the fish and cycle the tank. Never had any problems with any fish while using this product.
