thanks for the quick answer to the algae question. now for the cycling , i used uncured lr to cycle. after 2 weeks the nitrite and nitrate levels fell to zero. 2 days later i bought a chromis and it was dead the next morning. is this bad luck or a possible problem ?

It could have been stress due to a new environment. 90% of fish mortality accours within the first week in its new environment. Add to that the fact that the fish has been harvested from the ocean, shipped to the LFS and then taken to your home, that fish has been stressed a lot.
What are your other water parameters? You stated that ammonia and nitrites were zero, but what about PH, nitrates, specific gravity, temperature, etc.?
