I have an angelfish that has very damaged fins(caused by a supposedly docile fish that is being returned to LFS). His feeler fins, which were about an inch and a half long, are now maybe a third of an inch long, and his top and bottom fins are also similarly clipped along with his tail fin.

Will his fins grow back to normal if no other aggressive fish are in the tank with him?

And is there anything I can do to help him heal?

Yes, his fins will go back. Keep the water very well maintained (NO ammonia, NO nitrItes, very low nitrAtes). Don't let the other fish stress him out. Some people like to use MelaFix, but I don't know enough about it to recommend its use or not.

Maybe we could merge these two threads? There is one in another section too. I answered there before I saw this one...

The fins will grow back. I recommend turning up the trmperature a couple degrees, maybe add a little salt to speed up the healing process.

melafixed worked great to heal up fish. i used it when the bettas jumped into the next compartment and when my arowana jumped out onto the floor.
