My new Eheim 2217 arrived today, but it has some (I think) minor damage. It's one of the slots that the clip hooks onto to hold the top onto the canister. I'm thinking it's safe to use still, but want to be sure before I do anything else with it.

Picture attached...

Thanks!

So your saying the hold down clip has nothing to hold onto basically like missing a clip, or are we talking cosmetic?

If the clip cant work you can test it in the bathtub but logically if your missing a hold down clip the ability of the top to remain seated and prevent leaking under pressure has been compromised and could catastrophically fail.

No, the clip has something to hold onto, it's just the part on the inside that prevents you from being able to see inside the top of the filter is missing. The clip still works fine. I'm assuming it is cosmetic, but since that is where all the electrical stuff goes, and it appears that the output back to the tank flows through that part of the filter, I just want to be sure that that missing piece won't cause me pain.

Actually I just realized the housing itself is cracked as well. :( Darn darn darn.

Called Petsmart, and they're sending me out a new one, expedited shipping (I asked nicely) so I'll get it Monday most likely. Hopefully the plants and snails will be OK for a few days without the filter on it. I will probably put the little aquaclear HOB on there, but that will be almost useless on the 75 gallon... I guess if nothing else it will at least help keep the water moving.

*grrr*

Never accept anything that is not perfect. It's your hard earned money and there was nothing deficient with your money.
The seller easily returns things to his supplier.

I have two of these 2217s and they are over 2 yrs old. They are great. I just had a little difficulty priming them when I service them. Didn't understand how simple it is.
