hi. so i need some help on first aid of fish. i bought some damsels from a LFS and this LFS has really bad quality of fish and staff dont know crap, but things are cheap. I bought 6 damsels for $10. I got 2 yellow damsels, spotted damsels, and blue damsels. One of yellow damsels seems to be having some red skin or red stuff on its skin. I was wondering if someone could tell me what this is? These damsels seems really small. I hope they don't die. They are in my 10 gl hopsital tank right now.

mushroom coral

10 gl. hospital tank
7lbs LR
3 hermit crabs

Hi need some more info... does the red stuff look like a growth or is it just the scale coloration? If scale coloration, what part of the body is it on?

I think its the scale coloration on its body. Some near the bottom of its belly and near the gills. Top fins maybe look like they're tearing or some sort.

Was your tank cycled? I remember that I used damsels to get it going, (never will do it again), they had redness on their body, especially the gills. They died of ammonia poisoning. R.I.P

Damsels are known to squable amongst each other and it sounds like that fish has really been stressed out seriously. It can be paristec aswell. see if it spreads to the other fish. If the beaten up one seperates from the group by eviction it means that they wont leave him alone and soon the next weak link will be attacked. but if they dont fight, treat them with a general parasite and fungal clear. Thats the best i can do. Remember that it is very important to monitor your fish's behavior, damsels arent as easely stressed because of their aggresion and hardyness, but that:) doesnt make it an exeption.
Good luck

Thanks. And my tank is cycled. The damsels I bought I said I got from a LFS that isn't so good on quality, so I didn't trust them so I put my fish in the hopsital tank first. Cause when I was looking around the store there were dead fish in the tanks and stuff. I put some medication in the water last night and they seem to be doing fine now. Thanks alot guys.

I'd think long and hard before I put those in my tank. As Spinx said most damsels are very aggresive and most of them aren't very pretty when they get big. They do swim very fast though and will be very difficult to get out of your tank when you decide you don't want them anymore. They'll divide your tank into territories and squable constantly with any and all fish that come into their area.
