Dan Wheldon Dies After Injuries Suffered In Terrible Las Vegas IndyCar Series Crash

Dan Wheldon, the bright-eyed and oft-smiling Indianapolis 500 winner and former IndyCar Series champion, died Sunday after injuries suffered in a fiery crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.


Wheldon was 33.

R.I.P. I was watching yesterday, and you could tell from the mood that something terrible had happened. Especially when the drivers came out of the meeting, it was on all of their faces.

R.I.P. I was watching yesterday, and you could tell from the mood that something terrible had happened. Especially when the drivers came out of the meeting, it was on all of their faces.

Yeah, some of the women were crying and so was Tony Kanaan. Some of the owners (Chip Ganasse, Roger Penske, etc) were very shaken and body language made it all too clear. Danika Patrick was taking it hard too and she had been crying. Later I found out that Tony and Danika were very close to him and that Tony was the one that helped him get into Indy cars.

My prayers are with them all.
