Can anyone tell me a bit about the breeding habits of zebra danios. I have several in a tank a recently I had two (what I believe to be) males harassing a rather round "female". Not sure about sexing since they are the gold ones just basing it on the body shape. I have several questions. Do danios breed readily in aquariums? Where do they lay their eggs? Will a zebra danio breed with a glo-fish or a leopard danio and if so should they not be allowed to breed with each other? Any other genreral info would be great!

Yes, they'll all breed with each other- most crosses between different kinds look like regular zebra danios.

They're all the same species- or in the leopard's case a subspecies. They'll mate readily but you might not even know it- they eat their own eggs. They scatter them on the floor and they and their tank mates soon eat them... hey, no-one called them smart!

I think I read if you want to breed them your best putting them in above marbles so they can't get to the eggs.

Incidentally, I have seen a photo of a Danio that looked like a washed out GloFish with black stripes.

Obviously a Danio/Glofish cross... I don't know if it was F1 or F2, or if it is possible to get that outcome with the first gen or if the first gen all look like Zebs.

I think a partial water change as well as slightly raised temp due to the warm weather was partially responsible. They have returned to perfectly normal behavior today so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm sure if they did the cories in the tank have probably had a feast by now.
