thanks...i think. it is an on going project. i have been adding 1-2 plants every 2-4 weeks, some of which did not make it. i tried (and still would like) some grass-like plants in the front for those bare spots.

i will take any suggestions anyone has. any plants that are harder to kill than others?:D

Simon, thanks. I love the avatar. Still makes be chuckle.

Yashinfan, so exactly what do we need for substrate to see fry? I've heard those marble stones help out. Can you fill me in? My tank will be growing to a 29 soon so it might be nice to see if I can get a couple more zebra danios through breeding.

I have six danios, three pearl and three leapord (two long finned, so pretty!). All in my 25 gal tall tank. They are sooo active, just what my tank needed when i got them. They aren't really schooling fish but they tend to stay together at the surface most of the time.... and follow each other around just to play. I did notice that one of my long-finned leapords got a nip out of his tail fin, and i think one of the other danios did it. They leave all my other fish alone, maybe because they are the smallest i dont know.

Your tank looks good, lots of room for the danios to swim. But they do like to play in the busy plants sometimes.

I think any substrate that is fairly large, (even just on surface) is adequate for the fry to hide in. I got my gravel from the river near my house. Its got small rocks like the gravel you buy in pet stores on the bottom, then larger rocks up to about an inch round covering the top inch or so of the substrate. I extensivley scrubbed and boiled the gravel before it went in my tank, and it was well worth it. Just having that kind of gravel makes it look so natural! anyways, my krib fry hide easily in the rocks. I can never find them until thier mom wakes them up in the morning.

Here's a picture of large gravel:

I really don't know much about banjo cats, but I doubt they would be incompatible.

You could use marbles or large gravel as your substrate to save fry. You will get TONS with marbles (ie: hundreds), and probably tens with gravel. Believe me, you don't want hundreds. I'm setting up my 3rd tank dedicated to them!

i stoped by a few lfs's on the way home from college today out of 2 stores...they have a grand total of about 6 danios......

there is one about 5 min. from my house that had tons of them last time i was there...i will probably stop by there on thursday.

yes, i really dont want "hundreds". a few making it would be cool....

How many do you think I should get? I'm wanting 8-10, is that too many to add to this tank?

thanks for the help.

I'd go with 8.
