danios and cichlid compatibility

I getting ready to setup the lower 30g in my rack. Right now, I'm thinking of diving into some dwarf cichlids like kribs or apistos.

Question: I may move some fish around. One possible move is taking the giant danios to the lower 30g. Would danios work with kribs or apistos? Is this a goofy mix?

danios are fine with small cichlids like apistos, although I'd go with a South American tetra as the schooling fish with apistos
