I had my shrimp for about 2 weeks and was clear with a little white stripe on his back when I got it, it was clear 2 days ago and now it is a dark reddish brown with white stripes on its back and tail.
What happen?

I don't know, but he looks awesome for a shrimp. I can only find ghost shrimp here where I live.

From: http://www.shrimpfanatics.com/shrimp-rainbow.html

The Malaysian or Rainbow Shrimp gains its name for 2 reasons; it originates from Malaysia, and secondly its ability to darken and change colors to match its surroundings. It usually becomes transparent like the Ghost Shrimp when drifting among plants but changes to brown or deep red when resting on driftwood. When in darker colors, a tan stripe down its back is evident. This species has also been spotted in bright blue, green and yellow coloration.

Growing to about 2.5~3 cm maximum, this shrimp is becoming very popular with aquarists for obvious reasons. It is relatively inexpensive and its life span is much longer than Ghost shrimp which typically survives a few months in tank. Besides feeding on leftover fish food, it is also known to combat green hair algae and bush algae. The Malaysian Shrimp thrives in a wide range of water parameters, be it water temperature or pH, and is adaptive in a suitably stocked community tank.

Alright thanks.

I told the guy at the petstore that it did not look like a Amano shrimp, but he kept on insisting that it was.. I will be calling them on Monday to see if they can give me what I want.

Very cool shrimp though, I just want Amano shrimp because they are the best for eating algae and I want to try and breed them. Especially since when they do have baby's they have 200 to 400 at a time.

Animal House where I live just labels them as "Algae Eating Shrimp". Didn't know they would get so pretty. They were just clear with the white stripe down the back at the LFS. I'll have to check on getting some. Do they require the same parameters as Cherries?

I had a ghostie that lived almost a year before I fed him to my wifes convict... I was afraid he was eating my snails. :(

I've read that the mortality rate for the Amano Babies is really low considering what all has to be done to get them to adult hood. Out of the 200, breeders can get 50 or 60 to survive, which isn't bad at all considering the amount Cherries have at a time... :) We were going to breed Amano's, but can't get them around here... People don't even know what they are really. Just that "that japanese guy had them in his tanks". I tried to explain who he was, but they weren't listening... *rolls eyes*

lol over here the only shrimp we can get is Alamo where I live! I have to travel twenty miles to get cherries and river shrimp, but that is it, they are the only shrimp I can get LOL.

We can only get the rainbow and ghosties here.. It's pretty sad considering I have 14 pet shops within 20 minutes of my home...

Can anyone find good information on breeding these shrimp?
I can't find any useful info anywhere..:headshake2:
