Hi. Looking for some thoughts. 2 of my Zebra Danios have a dark spot on the left side of their lower mid-section. They've had it at least 4 months and at first, I didn't think much of it. I've attached a picture of one of them. The other is in the same spot, but its not round, it's shaped like a tic tac.
These spots appeared long before I had troubles in my tanks. But starting November, I've had a real problem with guppies dying. Here is my post on them. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90463
With that, I was clued into parasites from the long white poop that I've seen on a couple of the guppies. 2-3 weeks ago, I treated both tanks with Parasite Clear (twice, 48 hours apart) and fed them both Jungle Anti-Parasite food (metronidazole, praziquantel, levamisole) for 3 days in each of the last two weeks (instructions say continue for 4 weeks). Perhaps it's too early to tell, but I've lost 2 more guppies (they dont really seem to want to eat the anti-parasite food), and 1 danio - which was the first danio to die.
Now, I'm wondering whether I have treated the right thing, and maybe this dark spot on the danios will give me some sort of clue to something else?
As for the danio that died, long before I started having guppy deaths, this danio looked terminal. It was laying on the gravel. It's fins looked matted down, and the tips dark and pointed. When it swam, it's body was very arched, and it swam very difficultly. I didn't do anything, and a few days later, it was back to nearly normal (not perfect, but close). And it seemed fine for 3 months. Until it finally died last week.
Then, a few days ago, the same thing happened to another danio. Some video of it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi-3pFBTSDo But, now 3 days later, just like the other one, he's back to 95% normal (He's the same one that you see in the still photo. You can see that the tips of his back tail are still slightly tapered). I don't get it. (btw, this is the same fish that you see with the rounded dark spot).
BTW, I have never seen any white poop from the danios. Has anyone else seen anything like this happen to danios and any ideas what this dark spot could be?
Water params are the same as before: PH: 8.0, Ammonia: 0, Nitrates: 0, Nitrates: 20.
