Darn cat...

Tossed out the tiki ca t food that was left in the can to the ferals, they scarfed it down as soon as I was far enough away from their feeding spot. Maybe I should have them as house cats and throw Chance outside. They know what's good.

Typical cat! We have a longhair Calico that was unadoptable because she was extremely mean. She gets it into her head that she wants what she wants, and no one is going to change it! I just out-wait her as it is all that can be done. She has a severe case of IBS requiring special food and daily doses of a steroid. She was on Prescription Diet but at $2 a can, 1-2x a day got too expensive. I then got some recipes from out vet and I make her food. It is made from everything we will eat so cost is negligible. See your vet for some recipes that are beneficial to your cat.

As far as Queen Daphne the Diva trying to out-wait us and trying to hold out for food she does want, her desire to eat is stronger than her willingness to holdout. We feed 2x a day and not self-feed. It means they get it when available else it gets picked up and they have to wait for the next feeding. It stops some of the pickiness.

Good luck!

Thanks, if the guy I bought this food from still has some left at the end of the month when I get paid then I'm buying the rest. Even if I can't manage to get her to eat it(which I am going to try and pick up her bowl) at least the ferals will be living the good life. She's gotta be hungry but I guess not hungry enough. Maybe another 12 hrs. will make her hungry enough. With the cheap crap I previously bought I wouldn't fight her on it but this is the crem de la crem and she's being an a$$ de la a$$.

I don't know why I had chosen to free feed Chance in the beginning. I guess because she's my only cat. All my dogs don't get to free fed as they all are food aggressive towards other animals so they are fed once a day and it prevents any scuffles between them.

But all in all I know this cat food doesn't taste bad otherwise the ferals wouldn't be eating it(or risk coming out of hiding to eat it while I'm around) and my dogs try and sneak in the bathroom at any chance they get. I do think I'll stick with dogs from here on out if I have this much trouble with a cat :) She kinda adopted me though so I guess I'm stuck with miss diva Chance. Maybe that's why she would eat anything in the beginning, she was starving to death outside. When I sent her to the feral cat clinic to get fixed as an adult cat she weighed in at 6lbs. and she's not a small cat, not maincoon/ragdoll huge but good sized.

I read somewhere that cats are supposed to eat a cup a day, is this accurate? More/less? Is me being a complete newb on cats that obvious :) ?

Picky kitties! I'd be careful about switching up her food so often, that can be a bit hard on the digestive system after they have come accustomed to a certain type. I'm lucky in that my kitties will eat just about anything, any brand , any flavor. I feed them nutro dry food, can's are a once in a while treat because after a can these cats let off bombs that can curl your nose hairs!

I guess I'm lucky i don't have to feed my cat...

Oh an I know all about bad smells from cats..... evil cat

I've got one cat that won't eat anything he isn't used to, so the only way to get him to eat anything new is to mix it up with a bunch of what I know he likes, and gradually wean him. It's like he doesn't recognize it as food. But if he sticks his nose up at something for no reason, or just hoping for something better, then I make him wait 12 hrs until next meal and see if he changes his mind. He usually does.

Good luck with yours!

Yes, your complete noobishness with cats is that obvious XD

Well, i feed my cats twice a day, about half a cup each, so yea, that looks to be a cup a day. Unless that really annoy me then they A)get 2 cups a day or B) get nothing for the day. Depends on my mood. And when they wake me up. If its before 6, they get nothing but a shove off the bed. Im sure that if you get Chance hungry enuff she will eat anything you gibe her, even your fingers if you let her :) But really, cats are surprisingly inexpensive. While good food is good for them, they prefer stuff that tastes good and smells bad XD

Man I wish I had a picky cat. Duck will eat anything. He will dart and swipe from your plate. He made off with Dan's entire baked potato and a piece of pizza once. Not on the same occasion lol. The lid was left off the butter dish and Duck ate the whole stick, he will even get into the grease that is taken out of browning ground beef if it's left out. He eats out of his bowl too lol it's not like we starve him. We tried the wet food but holy moses was that a bad idea. We had to light a match every time he used the box. He switched to dry food without a hitch. We used to just put a bowl of food out for him, but he's a big fatty now. He's on a diet and he just got fixed...not a good week for Duckers :(

I'll have to get some updated pictures :)

When I used to have cats, I was lucky that no one was picky. I always left dry food out for them, and each got half a can of wet food every evening. Every once in a while, for a treat, they would each get a tiny bit of half and half. Happy cats, every one. I never watched anyone eat, so I assume that they each ate his/her own meal. All I know is that their wet food bowls were empty when I picked them up later in the evening to wash. And I had to fill their dry food bowls every 2-3 of days or so. No fatties and no scrawny rails. Cats are very sensitive and yours may be playing you for all it's worth. Try not to fret. Chance isn't going to waste away before your eyes. Put her on a regimen and stick with it. She'll get it when she's ready.
