After searching for crazy in my Biotope (wife helped as well with a flashlight in the dark) the last couple of days for my Amano shrimp, I finally found one. The thing is, he stood on the little submerged flower pot presenting himself in all his glory for two minutes and then scuttled under a plant. I could swear he turned invisable becuase one second he was there and then he merged into the background. The guy at our LFS said he had many people telling him that their shrimp were gone but they turned up again a couple of weeks later!

I had 1 (and only one) shrimp in my ADF tank that I wanted to move into my 29g. I got out my trusty fish net, and captured him. When I went to dump him into my 29, he jumped. I could not tell where he went. I didn't know if he went into the tank, the filter, the floor (or the couch that was next to the tank).

I searched everywhere for hours with a flashlight, saying to myself "why did I move him in the first place. I should have left him alone. Now I killed him and he'll be dried up krill). Eventually I gave up.

2 weeks later, there he was, swimming past me, along the glass over to the other side of the tank. Wow, he had gotten bigger. :)

I got nervous when I heard that the can climb plants and take a walk on the wild side and survive for a while in the outside world, of course you never know if they can find their way back. I figure that my cat would eventually locate them, yuck!

I read on here a long time ago that you can find them more easily if you shine a blacklight to them. (or is that a red lense light?)

I had a Ghost Shrimp that did this all the time in my little 3 gallon Betta tank. He'd be missing for weeks and I'd be about to go out to buy a new one when all the sudden he's right there out in the open.

How much are ghost shrimps in your area? I haven't ever bough just one, as they come 15 for $1 here.

I went months w/out seeing a ghost shrimp and assumed all my fish had eaten them (which is why I got them). Finally I learned they were all living in my java moss! There was a whole colony of them in there. I even took the java moss out and swished it in tank water when I cleaned the tank, took pieces of it for other tanks and everything. So not only did they manage to survive getting eaten by my fish, they survived me messing w/ their home all the time. And I never knew. I thought I got rid of them all when I ditched the java moss but no... a week or so ago I turned on the light in my tank and there was a shrimp, sitting on a plant.
