All the kids who visit my tank like my dwarf aquatic frogs the best. Maybe have your daughter make two frog "houses"... one dark and one glass. Document which house the frog prefers and why. Observe the frog swimming to the surface and then scrambling for cover. Why? That plus the photos would be enough for a nine year old in my household.
My son helps me with water tests, but it's too subtle to get him excited. And the livebearers might not accommodate the school calendar.
Oh, and I got into this whole hobby when I saw my son's fourth grade teacher's frogs. I vote for frogs.
