Biocubes have these day/night system to mimic the worlds day/night cycle for your fish. Is there a way to mimic what they do with your own system? Im not sure what colors to go for or what kits to get. I am pretty electrically savvy so i can rig something myself no problem. The purpose of this isnt for plants really, just for my fish and what not and to give a kool ambience

there are several timers you can buy specifically to do this, when the daylight lamps are off, the nighttime lamps are on, or you can use a number of timers and lights to do the same. On my discus tank, I have 2, 96 watt 6700K daylight bulbs on 10 hrs per day... and at night I have 2 LED kitchen cabinet lights on, I had colored the lenses blue to simulate moonlight through the water... I am currently adding 2 more 6700K's to be on for 4 hours a day to simulate the high sun around noon (my plants need more light)
check it out in my build thread - link in my signature below...

You could put your tank next to a window.

Another solution would be to set up multiple lights, on multiple timers.

I have a set of lights with the LED's built in, and one that doesn't. Both are set on a timer that turns on the regular lights after the room has gotten bright in the morning, and they go off when the room is still light but starting to get dark at night. Then the moonlights come on. I think I have some kind of obsessive compulive disorder when it comes to their lighting.
