ok ....did a 40%Wc yesterday as was registering nitrITE at or between .25-.50...
Pre WC results:
ph 7.4
amm 0
nitrITE .25-.50
nitrATE 20 OR LESS
temp 78-80

Now after 24hrs im registering 1.0 NitrITE!! yat the hey....:lp
all others same parameters as prior too.
why is this?

125g FX5 DRIVEN
13 INCH COMMON PLECO
5 CICHLIDS 5-8 INCHES...
gravel substrate
I ADDED SOME ROCKS..does that effect nitrITE.....i boiled em for an hour, bleached, dechlored, and i added a plant, but i registered the nitrITE b4 that and after i did WC i registered 0 nitrITE after a couple hours,,,,
i used Prime....i dont like othet chemicals like aquel....so im sure my fishies hate me, but there still eating and acting normal...no flashing, but i could be harming them.....gonna do another WC tomorrow.....

MY TAP WATER TESTS FINE ITS WARM 88-92 DEGREES.....I USE ICED BAGGIES AND DOS LITRES FOR COOL DOWN AND TEMP IS STABLE 78-80F

your tank is still cycling.. and that plec is huge, so its gonna put a strain on the bioload

prime is the best thing to use.

its been cycled for couple months...WC's planned for tomorrow....woopty-friggin--doo....

thanx for input,,figured that was gonna be the answer`.....just curious as to why....

obviously, if it has been cycled for months, it isnt cycled any more...

a tank that displays either ammonia or nitrites is not cycled.

ok....so its been stocked....tested within normal parameters up until now....how does it uncycle itself?
i generally test daily/log and my Api nitrite drop test measures 0 nitrites in other tank....
my biggest concern is the fish.....i dont want to hurt them too much....and they wont fit in my other tanks.

how long has that massive plec been there? what about the rest of the stock?

any power outages? what is your filter maintenance like? how do you clean them? etc etc

i only rinse my media....30-60 day intervals...45 being the norm. still a couple weeks to go...

no power losses...
plecs made it from baby to current size in couple different tanks....hes been there almost 3 weeks, but we removed a 12-13 inch JD for that.....other fish added in 2 diff weekends a couple months ago.....they hop tanks.....even out aggression.....i think there all placed properly now....i also run a 12x36 sterilizer....not needed i know, but i own it and im gonna use it not box it away..

this set has been in over a month now...but 4 have been in over a month

well, something happened to cause the cycle.. either a massive increase in bioload, a lack of sufficient filtration, or a mass death of bacteria.

ill take #3....bioload has been same for a while..,,the JD would poop small children and was a crapfactory like the pleco....
im running a fx5 and a 405 is pumping my sterilizer.
how does bacteria just die off?

too much warm water?
too much WC%
thanx
