Dead coral in marine aquarium

Was this a live coral that has died? If so...I'd prefer to remove it, since it will decay and contribute to ammonia levels above what the bacteria can support if you don't have a robust cleanup crew.
 
Definitely dead coral. Looks like a trachphyllia. Im not sure if u should remove it or not though. Ive heard of people leaving their dead coral skeletons in the tank and it spontaneously coming back
 
I have never seen a (individual) dying coral produce enough ammonia to spike a tank and the remianing skeleton certainly won't be producing ammonia. If you like the look of the skelton, you can leave it IMO. Sorry you lost the coral.

The only coral I know of that has been known to regenerate after a complete loss of tissue are types of fungia plates. Unfortunately, your trachy won't do the same.
