I have a new 29 gal tank witch has just finished cycling. I have had 3 green cromids and 3 hermit crabs, all was well had a green hair algae problem but the fish store gave me some stuff to fix it and it seems to be working. Had the water tested and all was fine so I put in 1 polyp and 1 cool red worm thing that terns white when it is scared. I have bin putting in live rock slowly now have about 36 lbs. This morning when I woke up 2 of the hrmet crabs were out of there shell and one was dead. Have I done something wrong, can I fix it or is this normal

uhh...hermit crabs can live under water?...i always see them forsale out of water.

but brake the crab up like you would do to a regular crab you would eat, and feed the meet to your fishes they will love em.

I'd guess molt too. Unless, this wouldn't per chance be a used tank would it? Just wondering because if there has ever been any copper based meds in the tank that could be your problem.

Dead Hermit crabs will also have thier rear tail intact as well since its not coverd with a shell. If it was a molt there wouldnt be the tail section, and the whole body would be realy light compared to a living one.

Thanks for all the help it seems that the crabs were just molting and in the end all is well
