I got up this morning to find Mr P dead he wsa stuck behind the filter. He usually squeezes out of small places, but im guessing he blew up and got stuck. Would you agree and doe this happen often, he was all burnt and flaky skin was floating everywhere. I'm gutted.

No, a healthy fish shouldn't get trapped in the filter and die. I just can't see it happening even if he puffed. It's more likely it was a sick fish.

He didn't get stuck in the filter in was between the filter and heater but he was mainly on the heater, he was all burnt.
I don't think he was ill, he was eating fine always asking for more, always coming to the front of the tank and swimmig around quite happily.

Puffers do not release toxins when they die. Just SW cowfish & boxfish.

No nothing else in there hope there isn't any toxins had my hand in there. But how could he have been ill when he was absolutly fine. Whats the theory he got stuck coz he was to il to struggle out. Don't get it he was eating and swimming about, no abnormalities for the eye to see.
The reason i wanna find out what happened is coz i wanna get another one and i don't wanna make the same mistake twice.

Just thorught every now and then i would notice a cluster of black spots appear on his belly but then later they would be gone, i didn't notice any pattern to when they formed and went, what was this a sign of?

hmm, I've had funny spots of color appear on the belly of an Otocinclus catfish that died in my quarantine tank. It appeared fine until rings of golden brown started appearing and moving on the white skin of his stomach. The next thing I know, he's dead. I suspect it was due to poisons used in capturing it in the wild. Don't know if that is relavent to puffers but that's just my experience with odd colors on the belly of a fish

Good luck, I hope someone can give you a better diagnosis. It's so frustrating not knowing why a fish fell ill or died :(

Sorry to hear about your F8.

Sometimes F8's tummies get dark to light grey spots when they r stressed, upset or not feelin well. The spots can appear and disappear pretty quick. My F8 is nervous, so when anyone walks up to her tank her tummy gets grey, but then it goes back to white within a few minutes. She also gets a grey tummy when shes sleepin.
