Dead Fish... Ich or something else

The first fish that I saw spot of ich on has Died :( . My Question is this...
The fish was swimming and acting normal other that the signs of itch and it was swimming close to the top more that normal but I check my parameters and they seem fine. Ammonia 0, P.H. 7.6, Nitrates 10, nitrites 0. Can someone tell me the scientific name for itch so I can reasearch it more or is losing a fish common. The one I lost was a green tiger barb. Note he was quite small. like 1/2" long. or so....

Hey! I was just curious about your ich problem. The last I looked noone had answered you when you asked about whether or not to do a water change for two weeks. I'm definately new at this, but I changed my water daily to get any ich out of the water I might have had. That's what I was told to do, unless I misunderstood. Please anyone jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong. I lost several fish to. I hope you don't lose anymore. I lost all four of my dwarf gouramis, two mollies,and a silver dollar. I hope you have better luck. They all went up to the top for 1-3 days, depending on how long they lasted. They seemed to hang by my heater. :huh:
 
Yes Ich is what I meant. So do daily water changes and add the slat everytime? Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of turning the temp up? It would take a while to get the temp back up I would think. Anyways I will wait for some response before I do anything. The one that died has alot of spots so who knows kinda sucks it was one of the first fish we got and the kids really liked it. b/c he was so small.

That link will show you the best way to treat for ich without resorting to chemicals, copper, or dye treatments. I've used a commercial malachite green treatment (Rid-Ich) and it didn't work. Even killed my favorite fish :(
So do your fish a favor and follow the directions on that link. It's a long article, but the most recommended treatment plan as far as this forum is concerned.
 
I don't know Cajunfry. I just tried to put the same temp back in as usual and it seemed to stay right around 82. I was a chicken to go any higher in temperature. It seemed to do fine for me though thank goodness. I hope someone more experienced than me will chime in to help. I wish that article would've went through cause I was hoping it was the one they sent me. I think it was by Daveedka. I hope I spelled that right. His article was great. Maybe you've already read that though. Sorry I'm not very helpful!!!! I wish Roan was on, she's awesome help!!!!!!!!!
 
I have read the Article on Ich and treated the tank accordingly. My questions is not addressed in the article that I can find. So my question is this.... Did you do daily water changes and add salt everyday or what? Kinda seems odd to do if your are trying to keep the temp above 82. My tap water is COLD...

Lost one fish not looking to lose another... only one other fish from what I can tell has signs of Ich... Hard to tell on my Albino Barbs... and white molly. I will check in later.
 
the daily water changes are to remove any ammonia and other waste products, as well as possibly some ich parasites and cysts, to reduce the possibility of harming your fish in this delicate state. i would recommend vacuuming the gravel (siphoning) rather than just skimming water off the top. that way you remove more poop and maybe some cysts that are in the gravel. i made that mistake the first time i treated for ich. i thought it would work better if i left the water unchanged during the whole treatment (2 weeks!), with all the medication building up.

i would say add salt to the new water every day.

as always when changing water, make sure the water coming out of your tap is near the same temperature as that in your tank to minimize shocking your fish. you have a hot water heater, don't you? or are you running from a well? some people on this forum are. can't you just turn on the hot side of the tap a little bit?

Hey! Yes I am sure I changed the water daily and added the salt every time. To be perfectly honest with you, I have three kids to take care of and I didn't always have the time to do it the correct way so I had to put the salt in my buckets, stir it up of course and put it in that way. I'm not saying it's a perfect way to do it. That's what I did though. I also vacuumed daily to remove any ich that I could. Trust me It's gonna pretty much suck until it's gone. I lost my white Mollie. I couldn't see them on her, when it was to late I noticed a spot or so on her tail. She was white with black spots. Good luck...
