This morning I counted only 4 danios. A small one had what looked like a small cut on him but was fine for the past 2 weeks, swimming, eating, etc. This morning he is missing. I searched the entire tank and moved everything to see if he was under it.

My question is ...Do you think one of my birchirs ate him? Its the only other option I can think of.

I'd rather he was ate then rotting on my tank bottom somewhere.

edit:

As I was searching I noticed the injured one is still very much alive. The one that is missing was a very small leopard danio. I'm almost postive he was eaten, he was the right size for the birchirs. Just never thought they'd catch him. The rest of the danios are bigger and will have a better chance for the time being.

my albino bichirs managed to catch 2 small algae eaters, then a larger one i tried after i realised the small ones didnt make it. so they are capable of catching things (to my surprise). mine are a little bigger, but yours are still capable. im hoping and guessing this isnt the first time this has come up, but i dont think 1) you should have mixed the species you did and, 2) that goldfish should be in a bigger tank. if this has been covered in other threads please either post a link to them/it, or at least tell me the names of the threads so i can find them.

lol..to many posts to list.

I have a 55 gallon I'm setting up and moving the goldfish and danios into it.

The 75 is going to have the birchirs and clown loaches.

The 20 will be turned into a snail and shrimp tank to feed to the birchirs and loaches.

That is the 1st fish they have caught, took them about a month. When I first got the birchirs they were about 3 inches long. One is easily 4.5 and the other 4 inches already.

You could go to my member page, its linked under my name as custom member page and look to the right. It will show all threads I started.

i started to but figured i would end up mentioning it here anyways. any pics of the bichirs? you can see my albinos in one of my threads. they are a great fish. what all do you feed yours?

I used to have a bichir he would eat feeders and live worms then my cichlids decided to chew one of his front fins off and he died. But they can catch stuff pretty easially especially at night.

thats what i forgot to mention, they are nocturnal (generally) and while the other fiah are sleeping, or at least not on their highest alert, they may end up being taken down by the bichirs.
