because nitrates are present in even the most immaculate tank, thanks to the nitrogen cycle. this is what you are removing when you do water changes.
Yeah, Nitrate of zero sounds suspect. If a tank is cycled and has that many fish it should have some Nitrates. Did you wait the five minutes and shake the test tube for 1 minute after adding the 2nd bottle drops? I would retest your nitrates. Not that i think they killed the fish, but that is just very weird.supgourami said:Well today my fish, Poppa died. He was a bid 3 spot gourami. Yesterday morning he was completely fine, and then last night he was falling over and not having any control of his movements. I did a water test with my new test kit.
pH: 7.5
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrate:0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
After seeing him like this I did a 20% water change, and watched him for a while. Then I had to go to sleep. This morning he was dead.
None of my fish were sick at the time, all completely healthy. He was in a 30 gallon tank with 3 other 3 spots, and two snakeskin gouramis. Oh, and a small common pleco.
Maybe he died from old age? He was pretty old.
