Well i have had these baby mollies since they were fry in my other tank. They were always doing great, very active, would beg to be fed all day long, etc.. Well last night i did a small water change, added some dechlor, everything was great. Well today i turn my light on take a shower come out to feed them and noticed 3 of them are stuck in the intake filter, and 2 are upside down on the bottom of tank in the java moss. I trapped them all and put them in alittle breeder cage thing to observe them. Could this deal with the fact that mollies prefer salt? Im clueless to why they just all the sudden start dying. I tested the water and everything is normal as its always been. Any suggestions?

Well they havent died yet but are getting close, i threw some salt in the tank, drained a little water to allow more aggetation(sp?) at the surface and one is doing headstands and the others are alil bit tore up for the intake filter. But what can i do to save them or is it too late?

I would just leave them in the breeder net and hope for the best. They can be sensitive since they're so little, have you done other water changes with no problem? Maybe something changed a little bit and it affected them?!? It seems like you've done all you can, but I'm no fry expert either!

Well they been doing well for a couple months and i have done water changes with no problems. I just went to the fish store and had my water checked just incase my test results were incorrect. Here are what they came back with.

Ammonia (ppm): 0
Nitrate (ppm): 20
Nitrite (ppm): 0
Total hardness (ppm): 25
Total alkalnity (ppm): 80
pH: 7.6

** UPDATE **
When i saw the 3 sucked into the intake tube im talking wedged up in there. Some of their bodies were indented from the tube. and the others were floating on their bellies. Its been at least 8-9 hours since this event happened, and they all appear fine right now.. Im stunned??? Are they slowly dying or could something i have done helped them to survive the initial problem?

On a side note one of the mollies has black spots on its dorsal fin. I used to have a molly that had black spots also. It almost looked like someone took a lighter to it and burned off a small piece of its fin. Is this any kind of indication of something? or could it just be very small black spots of a black molly?

Maybe they just got lucky and you rescued them before being sucked to the filter caused any harm!! You can cut some sponge to put around the intake temporarily to keep it from happening again, I know there is something even better than that (can't remember), but I've used sponge in the past and it gets the job done at least!

I used to have a sponge on the intake but took it off after they got bigger thinking that they wouldnt get sucked into it. Im starting to think that the reason for the problem was i filled up the water alittle too much to the top. There wasnt much surface agetation to provide oxygen. What are the symptons of not enough oxygen for fish? could this be why the all started dying? Cause 3 days later after thinking they were all dead, they all are alive and kicking it.
