Dead/Sick Mystery Snail?

Patience is all I can offer, but I'll be honest, it doesn't look good. If there isn't anything harassing it, and it does come out for food, I've never had one recover.

I guess I’ll just have to keep waiting like you said. I moved him to a smaller cup and he actually got all the way out and started moving around for a while before staying in one place. That was last night and he hasn’t moved since so maybe I’ll keep him in that cup for a little while longer and see how it goes.

Snails should live more than a year. I have a few nerites that I've had more than 5 years, and they weren't tiny when I bought them.

Well I’ve put him back in the tank and he came out and started moving again but he hasn’t been moving much at all. I really don’t know what could be wrong with him. he’s still alive though, I just don’t know if he’s ill

Have you ever used any meds in this tank? Was it brand new or used when you got the tank? I ask because inverts can be sensitive, especially to copper, & it can permeate silicone & other tank décor. Fish are not as affected as shrimp & snails.

Well, that's good anyway. I really have no idea what to suggest next.

Do you live in a very old house with very old copper pipes? Something is making Gary unhappy. I've never kept big snails beyond a few years, I guess he could be old; I don't know what that looks like.

I'm so sorry. Have you checked the GH & KH of your water? I have very soft water but that leads to shell erosion, not like Gary's lethargy.
