I got a 3-pak of Fleischman's yeast - 1st one worked great in my new DIY. @d half of that envelope went 1 week. Envelopes 2 & 3 - nothing.

Date: 11/16/06 Maybe it died early? Anyone else have this problem?

New pak dated 5/07 :) I guess I'll start that if this 3rd env. doesn't get going soon.

It isn't the water - that's ultrapure lab water.

Yeast was fine - it was a leak in the container. New container>CO2 like crazy now (too much yeast!).

Glass>>plastic milk jug

Man, I gotta get my 46g going soon or my Crypt is going to outgrow my 5g

are you adding a whole package of yeast?

I generally only use 1/4 tsp for a 2 quart bottle. I get over 1 week nearly 2 weeks out of that.

also, if you're using distilled/deionized lab water, it will inhibit yeast growth - no dissolved oxygen. Yeast needs oxygen to grow and reproduce. I know people who have gotten stuck fermentations for beer etc because they used bottled distilled water; to get good fermentation you'd need to run an airstone in it overnight to reoxygenate it.
