dear fish people

Aqua Plus is good for you to use tonight. I would do a water change and use that tonight. I'm afraid your fish have already been stressed by water quality issues, and the best thing for them to help them survive it is to keep their water pristine.

Tomorrow you could go get some Prime, and do water changes with that, and have it handy for emergency detox.

I hope you were missing a decimal when you said a 55 for 1000.

And, yes, the 20 would be great for tropicals.

no i wasnt...its a 55 for 1000....it comes with a filter though, and i really dont know how much all the costs....so i thought i was good. oh and it comes with a hood with a light....not a good price....ok....maybe something else has come along...

craigslist.org can have some really good deals, sometimes.
I don't know what the tank has that should make it that expensive.

I saw a 55 gallon with hood, light, filter, heater, at Petsmart for $158.00 a few months ago.
WalMart has 55 gallon setups, too, with HOB (hang on back) filter, hood with light, and, I think, heater, too, at a much better price than that $1000 one.

Did a stand come with it for that price? Was it a 55 gallon tall or some other unusual configuration? I can't imagine a standard 55 gallon being that expensive.

we'll see what happens, i hope....we can get a bigger one, but another question i have is what do i do...with these when i set the bigger tank up. what do i do with the goldfish , where do they live...until then....and how long does it take for the larger tank to cycle? same amount of time...? or what....

Well, the best scenario of course is to cycle it without fish, but since you already have them, they would be more comfortable, and, I think, would have a better chance in the bigger tank.

You would still have to monitor parameters closely and do water changes to keep ammonia and nitrites below .25, but with water changes and Prime I think it would be easier and safer in the large tank.

Someone mentioned in an earlier post, the use of a syphon called "Python". When you can afford to, get one. It makes water changes so much easier because you attach it to your faucet, the flow of water from the faucet causes the syphon action, with water going straight down your drain, and then you flip a lever and you can start to fill the tank. (after making sure the water is the same temp as the tank)

The folks here do that, and dose the tank with the appropriate amount of Prime for the tank, and then as the water runs into the tank the Prime dechlorinates it.

With a bigger tank, especially, it makes water changes so much easier than hauling buckets. I don't have one yet, since I have only a 10 gallon, but even with that small size I can see how much easier it will be for me when I get one.

thanks!!!

It would take probably 6 to 8 weeks, I think.

There is a really neat thread that chronicles an AC member's fishy cyling of his tank. He worked his butt off and successfully cycled without any losses.

It can be done, but it requires constant attention to params and quick response with needed water changes.

I will try to find it and copy and paste the link here in this thread for you to read when you have time.

:) You are most welcome.

i am a stay at home mom, who has a 3 year old in preschool all day long and only 3 months pregnant with second child...i really have all the time in the world to take care of my new babies...so i hope my dedication pays off....actually might have just found a 55 gallon tank ...that can be here soon.
