Death of Angels solved?

I lost another angel tonight. Same thing.
On the suggestion of someone, I did a water change tonight (before death). I was just taking some of the water out. Then I decided to just surface the gravel. So much moldy crap came up. I started to syphon the gravel. Molded bodies!

My husband had put over a dozen feeder guppies in the tank at once for a 'treat' for the angels. Now, my husband really isn't an idiot. It just seems that some of the most intelligent people have no common sense. Especially someone who has been keeping fish for years!

So, do you think, this maybe what had caused the deaths of my angels? I am so upset about this!:(

since I'm having

a guppy population explosion, yes, if the guppies are small enough, the angels love them ) mine wont take them if they are over about a half inch.

Although Angels are cichlids, they're not a truly predatory fish. Keep away from feeders and vacuum your gravel heavily and you should have no problems in the future.

that sucks. sorry to read this...... :(

personally i would skip the feeders unless they are something you raise yourself and you start keeping large predatory fish. IMHO angels just don't need them and the nutritional values are slim to none has been posted repeatedly by others. i only use them with my larger cats occasionally, generally i use frozen foods as treats.

Sorry to hear about your fish, Lila. Angels are so beautiful and personable.

Just some memories.... I had angels for over a decade at one time and I would raise guppies for them as feeders. Maybe no nutritional value, but there was no doubt how much they loved getting them. I would only release a couple fry at a time. The angels would gather at the top of the tank watching the hovering net ready to release the treat. It looked to me like their eyes were brighter and their fins taller, if that were possible, and they would be "frisky" the whole day. They liked frozen brine shrimp, too, but slurping up the guppy fry like spaghetti was definitely their favourite.

I disagree. My understanding is that they are ambush predators. Probably rather more of invertebrates than fish fry in the wild, though.

I aggree that they are tough fish,Most of the ones i had act just like my cichlids.I like the way they look but I really don't like there personality.thats why i don't keep them anymore.
